Having already written to the Council in early December 2009 with set proposals on the closure of the Mounttown Road Lower, Councillor Devlin critised their decision for, once again, closing off Mounttown Road Lower to one-way traffic. At the Dún Laoghaire Area Committee meeting Cllr. Devlin again urged the Council Management to “investigate installing a stop and go system on the Mounttown Road Lower during the ongoing road works.”
In response the Management stated "The possibility of installing a “stop and go” system on Mounttown Road Lower was considered as part of discussions about the proposed works to be undertaken to facilitate upgrading of services for the development of the Golf Club Lands. As part of the process, a Traffic Management Plan was submitted by the Developer and agreed following consultation with the Council’s Transportation Department and Garda Traffic Section. The one-way southbound traffic flow was considered to be the only satisfactory option from a Traffic and road safety point of view. This is also a condition of Licence to carry out the works on the road"
Councillor Devlin has urged the Council to ensure that work is carried out in an efficient and timely manner and restore a two-way traffic flow as quickly as possible as it is causing havoc for local residents and businesses in the area.
